Gosh, a lay in today, until 6.15am. And then our first wet landing, or getting off the zodiac at the water's edge. We all manage it fine, apart from Jim, who gets the full dousing. A nature stroll along the beautiful beach, and we bump into a mockingbird, a Galapagos hawk, and many crabs, who mostly scurry back down their hole in the sand as we trample over their homes.
When we get back to prepare for another snorkel, we find the fact sheet recommending what tips we might consider, which everyone considered, and then considered them at least twice what we would consider paying. In the end we go with $10 per person per day for Mira, and $20 per person per day for the rest of the crew. Lorna also gives Fabien an additional $20, for "looking out" for her.
Fabien has ensured Lorna is always catered for when arriving back on the boat, and always has a drink, a meal, or a dessert that pays heed to her diabetes. One evening when Lorna wanted ice-cream, Fabien would not entertain it, much to Lorna's chagrin.
Having said that he and the rest of the crew have been first class, nothing has been too much trouble for any of them, and they are always ready with a smile and a helping hand, most impressive. The food has been varied, if a little eclectic in some of the combinations, but always tasty and wholesome. Although the boat was a little more tired than we imagined, I have thoroughly enjoyed the cruise, more so than Lorna. Not quite what I imagined, although it is always difficult after the event to remember exactly how you imagined it beforehand. I guess we imagined we would see more coloured birds, more variety perhaps, certainly that we would see giant tortoises in the wild.
Our last full day also contained two snorkels, one from the boat, and one from the beach after our afternoon walk. Neither snorkel matched the second one, both the ones today being in very murky water. One or two of the group saw a white tipped reef shark, I didn't, and I'm not overly concerned that I didn't.
Some fantastic rock formations along the beach this afternoon, but unfortunately the sun was not out to provide some light and shade, which would have been magical.
